Registration

Registration in Graz:

Within the first three days after your arrival in Austria, you have to register with the magistrate. Every Austrian citizen and all foreigners intending to live in Austria are required to fill in a so-called „Meldezettel“ (registration form), have it signed by the landlord/landlady and submit it at one of the offices listed below. Also take your passport with you.
Registration forms are available at the registration office or as download.
If you change your address during your stay in Graz, you must not forget to re-register.
Also, you must not forget to cancel your registration before you leave Graz.

Registration at Styrian Government:
Since 1 January 2006, all EU/EEA and Swiss citizens, who are staying in Austria for more than 3 months, must register at the immigration office (Styrian government) within 4 months after the arrival and receive a confirmation of registration („Anmeldebescheinigung“).

FOR THIS REGISTRATION THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS ARE NECESSARY:

  • Application form (available at the office in charge)
  • valid identification card or passport
  • proof of accomodation („Meldezettel“)
  • proof of a health insurance covering all the necessary costs (e.g. European Health Insurance Card) (“Krankenversicherung”)
  • proof of sufficient financial means (guideline: EUR 400 per person per month) or the Erasmus contract from your home university (“Bankauszug” oder “Bestätigung über das Erasmus Stipendium)
  • letter of admission at University Graz (“Inskriptionsbestätigung”)
  • passport photo
